> what's (legitimately) good about Complice that not enough people know? (from @s_r_constantin) complice.co is the intentionality app I built and have been iterating on for years. it helps people take small steps towards big goals thread of facts about complice!

complice started as entirely email-based. you'd email in your list of intentions for the day, then your list of outcomes at the end of the day. only later was a database added to record these, then a website, then login. intentions→outcomes is still the core workflow!

on complice, you have a list of things you can check off, called "intentions", but it's very different from an ordinary to-do list, since it's fresh every day if you don't do something today, it slides into the past, rather than staying on the list & growing stale!

complice is also one of the only listy apps that encourages you to log not just things you're planning to do but also other things that happened spontaneously during your day! you can do that midday (start an item with '+' and it'll be checked off already) or at the end

it's super satisfying to realize that a bunch of stuff you didn't even set out to do has happened and made some sort of difference re something you care about not everything worth doing takes effort!

I want to find the things that are worth doing & where it'd be harder   for me NOT to do them than to do them.

what makes it so satisfying to add stuff is you can see what it all adds up to each intention is tagged towards whatever big-picture goal(s) it relates to, and then when it's reflection time, the progress is separated out by goal see what's 🚀 & what needs more ♥️

then there's weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly reviews they're all optional (unlike GTD where if you don't do them the system breaks down) and they're also based on seeing the progress you've made towards each goal & reflecting on next steps

that's the core. what else? probably lots of people don't know that complice has coworking rooms with video (& no audio, for focus) most of these are pomodoro-based 🍅 so that you can clearly chat during breaks but you can also make custom schedules! complice.co/rooms

complice not only has a hotkey for almost every feature, it also has hotkeys for at least half a dozen hidden features. I'm constantly testing out new stuff, and it often starts out buried under hotkeys, to a) not clutter the UI b) keep it not-discoverable while likely to change

complice is one of the only web apps I'm aware of that doesn't just have dark theme but supports: 🌜 automatic darkening at night & lightening during the day 🌞 (maximizes friendliness & readability at all times!) blog.complice.co/post/145832019…

I'm sorta tempted at this point to just name everything from complice.co/features but that feels outside the spirit of the original prompt incidentally, when I first felt into the prompt what mostly came to mind was just "random facts re complice", not per se *good* stuff

the random facts are kinda good tho! eg complice's day doesn't tick over at midnight everybody knows it's still "thursday" til either you sleep or the sun comes up & this is important since the daily workflow shifts modes when the day changes (defaults to 4am; can customize)

oh, another random fact is that complice has a public changelog, in the form of the @compluvi twitter account, which has tweeted nearly 2,000 user visible improvements ("UVIs") since the beginning 8 years ago
