Getting DALL-E and Midjourney to render unusual metaphorical images

what am I doing wrong here? this feels really simple but I have tried a lot of prompts and DALL-E does.not.get.​it.

relatedly, I tried many things to get DALL-E to make a magazine collage and it doesn't get the art style At All.

midjourney much better at collages but also having trouble with the "one this, one that"

this ("eye to eye") plus "pile of speech bubbles" (which breaks the usual sense of speech bubbles being above & outside people) seems to help (it still only works sometimes)

@adambinks_ @Malcolm_Ocean Argue “eye to eye”. I think you might need a “cliff”. Explain why/where the ground ends. Or the the person is standing [lost in a cloud] or in ground hugging fog.

ohoho this is super helpful. maybe. I'm honestly not totally certain that the response you're getting is actually the prompt being used and not a confabulation. would love if others could weigh in if they're confident

@Malcolm_Ocean you can ask chatGPT for the full prompt it used for the previous image. this can help debug.
