Google's new logos and why they're worse

I feel like Google accidentally hired too many designers a year ago or something (maybe some projects got cancelled to eat the devs?) and so they've redone the logos for Google Photos and Google Drive, but like... the new logos aren't any better? They're fine, but who cares?

Update: while researching the above tweet for like 2 minutes I saw that they're fucking even worse with other logos, so I have rescind my "they're fine" and now I agree with @TechCrunch: Google’s new logos are bad. Snarky & spot on article: techcrunch.com/2020/10/06/goo…

So many things I could quote from that article, but most of the awfulness of the logos is (imo) self-evident, so instead I'll quote this: > The message is clear: Out with the old — the things that built your trust; and in with the new — the things that capitalize on your trust.

Yep, I already hate how indistinct the fucking gmail logo is. Even among a bunch of white and black and blue logos, it's still much harder to pick out than the old classic red & white one. Don't fix what isn't broken, guys.

Of course, me being me, I can't tolerate this bullshit for very long, so now I have a little userscript that sets the icons back to what they were before. gist.github.com/malcolmocean/d…
