overall things have gotten more interesting as my kid has aged, as I expected. there's still been lots of emotional challenges. certain particular daily patterns immediately spike my stress to levels I used to never experience in a month. I've gotten some coaching for this but :/
struck by like... it's easier than ever to keep a baby or toddler or older kid fed, healthy, & clean... but so incoherent creating a context that makes any sense at all for them. like... wat. and this atomization definitely contributes to the frustration
parenthood has been and still is transforming me. as much as I would like many more breaks, I definitely would not want to go back—not just because I love my daughter, tho I do, in a personal way that wasn't possible at 4mo—but I love the challenge itself
I bet the sense of "wholesome worthwhile challenge" underlies the classic refrain "parenting is the most meaningful thing I've done" tbh I've had things more meaningful per hour but they're harder to focus on; this one is relentless so it drowns out the others in volume
I'm still somewhat surprised by the extent to which I don't feel like I've become that much of a nerd about parenting (yet?). like I read blog posts and books a bit but not a ton. staring much more at theology & AI. would take recs for sure! what writing has most inspired you?
