Announcing virtual barn-raising #2, coming up next weekend! @missrachelreads has created a math-learning card game for kids with dyslexia, that she wants to get printed & marketed. Saturday 7pm-midnight Eastern Time = Sunday 8am-1pm Singapore Time (we did the DST/TZ math!)

She's looking for help with manufacturing, marketing, distribution & scaling (+card art!) Even if you don't have specific expertise with any of these, general problem-solving energy & google-fu can go a long way! Sign up here: forms.gle/VxatmKJmh5qBQs…

If you want to learn more about what sort of help Rachel is looking for, read the following tweets, which she wrote (lightly edited by me to fit 280 chars) We'll have more detailed context & guidance for all of these at the event!

"So for manufacturing, apart from thegamecrafter.com, it would be good to have a short list of at least 5 other manufacturers who would either be able to also print on demand, or be able to small in small quantities (100 pieces), to be able to compare prices."

"For marketing, it would be good to figure out an effective and compelling marketing campaign, whether through tweets, Insta posts/stories, blog posts, all hosted on my company’s website, first targeting parents of kids with dyslexia, and then later to the broader population."

"In addition, it would be good to have helpers who are connected with figures in the education space, on Twitter or elsewhere, to either gift them a copy of the game, if feasible, or retweet promotional tweets when produced."

"A video producer would be also helpful to help figure out a promotional video. I’m not sure how to do this remotely, but am thinking of perhaps storyboarding digitally for starters." We probably wouldn't finish the video day-of, but could get started with ideating etc.

"Scaling isn't a current bottleneck, but could be worth strategizing about in advance. If this works, I’ll need the help of someone more experienced than I am to figure out how to manufacture in bulk with a trusted factory which might be more cost efficient than GameCrafter."

"Also, adjacent projects for the barn-raising would be to have artists design and draw a series of pictures for other memory games that involve language learning. I’ll be including a description of each card to be drawn on Notion."

Every barn-raising there's also lots to be done on the barn-raising meta-project itself! I bought a domain (barnraising.party) during the last one but there's nothing on it yet. So design/dev work to do there. Plus lots of documenting best practices, etc.

I'm still trying to figure out what the digital equivalent is of the person who goes around with a pitcher of lemonade. 🤔 ...it's a vital role!

So! If you're interested in signing up for next weekend (or future events) you can fill out this form: forms.gle/VxatmKJmh5qBQs…

We're also looking for projects for barn-raisings #3, #4, etc! So if you need a nudge to get off the ground, reply here 👋 Rachel says: > already so much has been done in the past 2 weeks compared to the past 2 years just by talking with you

Many of us just need a gentle handhold and someone saying "it's an interesting/good idea, tell me, how will you do it?"
