Receiving book recommendations without queuing up obligations

Friend sent me a book reco. I replied: > I'm not really doing "intending to do stuff nebulously in the future" atm & I don't think it's high priority for right now > but go ahead & send me thoughts you think I'd find inspiring > maybe that will prompt me to read it, maybe not! 🧵

This is part of my new campaign to uninstall the concept of homework from my consciousness and learn a new nowness & self-compass based way of relating to motivation.

I hate homework I hate the idea that somebody gets to tell me what to do if they're not *even there*.

Today I was the one sending a friend a book reco! And she said > noticing I don’t have a way for an incoming rec like this to cause me to read a thing! > like this is “thanks for the rec” but noting I don’t have an API for handling it, sort of

And I want to share my replies here because they also really illustrate this new way of relating to things. > mm! loving your reveal! relatedly one thing I've been trying to do is not allow things to accidentally queue up (then I told her my story from the first tweet)

> So part of my thinking here (& part of why I immediately attached the PDF) was that similar to how one does sometimes with linked articles, tweets, etc, that you might just be in the mood to look at it right now, and if so I wanted that to be as smooth as possible!

> A different thing I would happily do with you is schedule a call (or spontaneously have a call) where we read it at the same time and comment on it—it's been years since I read it and I'd love to revisit it with a friend!

from @Malcolm_Ocean: "Google Docs is supposed to be for writing, but it is actually the best app for reading" currently commenting on a pdf together that we pasted into Google Docs and my god this is the best reading experience i've ever had, wow

> On a fairly different note, some friends and I have been experimenting with sharing our email-to-kindle email addresses with each other so that we can directly send books to each others' devices! (Calibre spoofs addresses so you can all use the same fake trusted send-email)

Oh I realized this video of mine is also essentially on this same topic of nowness. (@visakanv do you to much linking to your videos on twitter? or... hm. how to cross the streams safely...)

Me & @Morphenius having an energetic conversation about nowness, digital spontaneity, task lists & taking the Complice philosophy even further featuring mentions of @QiaochuYuan & @Aryeh___ youtu.be/wlSMDdFkWMc
