Graph tools, family DAGs, and the sexual reproduction of ideas

Complete "family trees" aren't actually trees (unless asexual reproduction). Mating process makes it a DAG instead. I was already saying @RoamResearch was a gamechanger (over workflowy or file-folder hierarchies) like the advent of sexual reproduction—turns out it's isomorphic!

(For those somehow unfamiliar with @RoamResearch, it looks like @WorkFlowy but allows "pages" that represent unique entities that can be referenced & you can see references to, and allows embedding nodes or subtrees in other places within the graph.)

@adam_keesling i'm mainly using it to research history right now, and health stuff. and loosely to overview all my writing projects

Yesterday, I talked about "idea sex" in a workshop with @david_perell Today, I wrote an article to expand on it: • Many still believe in an elusive muse • But inspiration is unreliable • Idea sex is a sustainable way to drive combinational creativity nesslabs.com/inspiration-to…

Twitter would be a bunch of isolated trees if it didn't have QTs. I would say QTs don't allow full-on *mating* though... they're more like horizontal gene transfer between bacteria?

This is part of a much deeper exploration I've had for some time which is like, what kind of relationship can two tweets have to each other? Currently it's basically: - reply - QT (quote-tweet) but there are many implicit things those official relationships can each mean!

Full mating of tweets would be if you could QT two tweets at once, or reply to two tweets at once. Currently happens via screenshot, eg my #Twiptych series or the example you can find if you click through below

Twitter is currently very divergent: you can't bring 2 tweets together by replying to both or by QTing both at once. That's a HUGE limitation to what kinds of thoughts we can represent here. Ends up as screenshots—cumbersome & loses context. twitter.com/Malcolm_Ocean/…

Although I kinda feel like @visakanv here is talking about the difference between asexual reproductive success and sexual reproductive success 😂

The race is on to assemble the best possible articulations of ideas in ways that are not just funny or clever, but deeply resonant in ways that make other people want to revisit and reuse them repeatedly broke: viral tweet woke: tweet that’s referenced & reused in many threads

idk whether @jack or others at @Twitter have been reading what me & @visakanv & @micahtredding others have been writing, but it looks like they're starting to explore this hyperdrive possibility

Nice Here’s my #1 rec for @twitter: realize that quote tweets are a killer feature of your product. Add it as a separate part of notifications besides All and Mentions. And separate it from RTs. Ie make it “likes, RTs, QTs”. Sounds radical? It’ll push this game into hyperdrive
