Tired: vote for your preferred party 🤷🗳️ Expired: try to destroy the party you hate most 👈🤬 Inspired: tell a flailing party how they could credibly become the sort of thing you'd actually vote for 💡📈 astralcodexten.substack.com/p/a-modest-pro…

a whole new level of steelmanning wouldn't it be awesome to have both/all political parties have a meaningful platform with serious benefits, rather than scraps? these articles & conversations are part of what define the emerging new political axis meaningness.com/political-left…

interestingly, if we look at these 2 images from the article linked above, depicting the pre-1960s left & right ↙️ and the 1970s-2010s left & right ↘️ Scott's proposal is *close* to a return to the pre-1960s axis, but with the names reversed! (tho meaning of class has evolved)

For more on these topics, I've found the following two articles quite insightful: This one describes 3 distinct class ladders (labor, gentry, elite) that have very few ways to move between them, though some ways to move up within. indiepf.com/michael-o-chur…

This one talks about 4 classes in America based on 1 question: "how do they get most of their income?" > "Broadly speaking [...] it’s from one of four sources: - returns on investment - monthly salary - hourly wage - government welfare check" archdruidmirror.blogspot.com/2017/06/donald…

But both of those have some staleness and understandable cynicism in their takes, whereas the Codex/ACX post above feel fresh, alive, and encouraging.

Ahhh, a key difference here is that the axis realignment that's happening now isn't between "the working class" vs "the rich" it's between "the working class" vs "the educated/cultured" because ofc just because you're woke doesn't mean you're not also broke
