You create your own part of Twitter by blocking liberally

fun fact: you create your own "this part of twitter" if people aren't playing the game you want to play, to an egregious degree, just block them! 🛑 if they're on the edge, and you think they'd rise to a challenge to step up, DM them!

also there are different arenas & different games! for some of us, it feels totally fine to follow & interact with people on twitter that we wouldn't feel safe being in a room with for others, they don't even want to see such accounts. fine! mute/block!

if you feel like it would be a relief to not see someone's tweets again, I encourage you to mute or block them with no further reason needed. letting people make you uncomfortable is not a virtue

by "game" here I mean "mode of interaction" or "culture" homo ludens; playing human I am not trivializing anything you create the culture around you. I'm mostly on twitter to interact with people who know that or who are excited to discover it. I block liberally

I LOVE how twitter does not have reified communities, with moderators who have to decide to ban ppl (& can be pressured into doing so) this place has a kind of self-organization magic that other platforms don't! that's how these parts of twitter happened

there is no single "this part of twitter" there never totally was but there's even less of one now however! there are THESE PARTS of twitter fluid, overlapping, playfully aiming towards earnestness, self-honesty, intentional cultural norms, & figuring out sovereignty

you are the sovereign of your part of twitter! it's up to you to maintain diplomatic friendliness with anybody you want to be able to read & reply to (otherwise they might block you) and you're free to block whoever you don't want to interact with

in other words, twitter is a perfect place to practice boundaries!
