if you get defensive when arguing about something it's a sign you aren't listening to the parts of yourself that ACTUALLY THINK things you think you don't
(what those parts think may be different from what the person you're arguing with thinks. the point is just that you don't feel secure in your knowing)
In some sense "insecure in your knowing" can also come from social dynamics, but ultimately there's a thing it feels like to have a relaxed ease about something and if you're defensive that ain't it
doesn't mean you're wrong. you may have just memorized a fact that is correct, but your knowing of it is based on trusting some authority you don't dare disagree with
