Fallacies are jokes taken seriously

11 tweets · May 2022 · 28 likes · 2 retweets · read on Twitter

fun fact: you can replace "fallacy" with "joke" and it pretty much always works

what turns it into a fallacy is that the joke is taken seriously (by speaker, interlocutor, and/or audience) rather than chuckled at—"ha, good one!"

the straw man joke

the correlation/causation joke

the texas sharpshooter joke

the middle ground joke

the appeal to authority joke

the no true scotsman joke

the mind projection joke

the planning joke

the if-by-whiskey joke
