Not wanting to be overestimated, and the whiplash that follows

Apparently I have some pockets of insecurity I wasn't aware of! Reading a few comments like this about me has me going "uhh guys wait" I think there's a real thing there, that's like, not wanting people to overestimate me & then get whiplashily disillusioned, which has happened.

@ElodesNL @liekovarpio @m_ashcroft @pragueyerrr @tasshinfogleman @Malcolm_Ocean Have to second this. One of the most comfortable, grounded people (my read from call with him) I’ve experienced from the birdsite

But it raises a fascinating Q about how to actually *do* the having-people-not-overestimate thing. They're ofc gonna have whatever expectations it makes sense to them to have based on their set of experiences (of life and of me). I don't *want* to give them shitty experiences.

Another Q of course is whether enough trust & meta-level workability can be built that we can weather whatever storms may come. If you aren't overcorrecting you're undercorrecting.

life is an endless series of overcorrections

It's also important to note that as far as expectations & betrayal goes, I've mostly been a source of pain & whiplash to people I've been in really close intense relationships with, so people expecting me to be grounded on twitter and calls are in a sense well-calibrated.

But then there's the question of what sorts of extrapolations people are making from their various experiences, to other contexts. What are the implications of anything?

every experience you've ever had was real but almost none of them imply what you think they imply nor do they imply what other people claimed they imply
