Already Free by Bruce Tift. Loving this book immensely. The table of contents is simple yet attractive and intriguing. In the introduction, he explains the relation of the chapters—something I also quite enjoy when authors do it.

Wow. This book is an impressive convo of technical+rigorous and playful+casual, and the table of contents reveals that immediately.

Table of Contents for Per Bak's Self-Organized Criticality is pretty great shows how fundamental an idea he's got by how it applies to sandpiles, earthquakes, black holes, life, exinction, the brain, traffic jams, and economics

short but sweet

Absolutely delighted that @Philip_Goff’s book on consciousness & the purpose of the universe concludes with a short postscript on the question “Is taxation theft?”
