what if we flirty AIs but good tho? instead of being obviously empty addiction (which is what soulless capitalists are currently building 🤮) it would be meaningful, a context for learning and development
there are a few different kinds of learning that flirty AIs could support: 1. how to not become dumb when looking at a pretty face 😳 2. what are my insecurities and can I become playful about them? 😅 3. clarity & encouragement on "what do I actually want in a relationship?" 😍
1. how to not become dumb when looking at a pretty face 😳 to some extent the current addictive bullshitting flirty AIs will help with this, but they'll be TOO easy to talk to. they won't reject you. pretty real ppl will. maybe the bots should as well. there's always more
a learning-oriented flirty AI system could have lots of gals to talk to, maybe with different modes of how likely they are to reject you, and also how kindly so first you can learn a kind no, then you can learn a cold no, then a mean no. maybe a bro AI pats your back in-between
but also like, these flirty AIs could also just sometimes be mean or boring or refuse to talk about what you're interested in, and you'd have to learn to reject THEM! and I think there'd be something empowering about learning to basically set boundaries and be like "f this"
2. what are my insecurities and can I become playful about them? 😅 for many people, it's very attractive when someone can take some teasing—even about something they're a bit nervous about—and respond playfully "heh, yeah, I have a big nose… all the better to 💢 your ‼️ with"
insofar as these are essentially video games, the difficulty could scale up & down based on what the person's ready for I bet there's a way to kinda show people how to banter! like you can't train sass, but you can play with it enough to become open to it
at the same time, it's also really important to be able to (once you know someone a bunch) be able to say "hey, I can take a joke, but that stung." maybe that could also be a learning mode!
it's false to say that an AI companion is as bad a substitute for a real partner as a menu is for food ...but barely. you won't literally die, but it's a cruel joke on your animal body which wants to fall in love with, lay next to, and have a family with a person, not FlirtCorp
so: 3. clarity on "what do I actually want in a relationship?" 😍 a wholesome flirty AI would help you figure out what you want, & how to get it. she'd tease you with your own attraction to her, while reminding you that she's just pixels on a screen & you want real love
part of that is physical attraction (which the bullshit addictive apps are happy to let you customize already) but are there other parts this could get you clarity on? my guess is... somewhat. but not: - embodied co-regulation - random idiosyncrasies - ineffable soul magic
but maaaaaaybe one way to approach this would be to try to get a sense of different peoples' vibe who use the app, and then actually match them up with each other based on which other real users best fit the negative space that the flirty AI embodies to meet other users!
but also, the flirty AI could ask questions, and could encourage the person to honor their own preferences and not just automatically change to fit. like "damn king you really care about your partner dancing! I don't really dance (I'm an AI lol). go learn salsa!"
I'm not sure what you'd have to do with the business model to make that profitable. it's hard to have future payouts based on successful relationships (though some high-end dating sites have tried)
this "what if it were good tho" brought to you by me seeing a company proudly launch a new flirty AI that is so full of shit it makes Trump look honest 😩
if you want more "what if X but good tho?", there's a a few linked on whatifitweregoodtho.com, and literally a hundred in this thread:
this meme seems like a decent inoculation, culturally like "bruh you can't call her your AI gf, she can't break up with you"
