@jessi_cata @xuenay @Meaningness @nosilverv I got the Kegan bug from Ethan (@think_and_cause or @deevbrain ) and @Malcolm_Ocean. I forget where they got it from. I wouldn't have known about it if not for that fateful party where we stayed up till sunrise

@gworley3 @jessi_cata @xuenay @Meaningness @nosilverv @think_and_cause @deevbrain I got it spring 2014 from a guy I met up with while visiting my sister in Montreal, who had worked with Kegan. Then it turned out the library I lived in at the time had most of his books already. Aug 2014 I shared it with Ethan & we presented it at the CFAR reunion that year.

@gworley3 @jessi_cata @xuenay @Meaningness @nosilverv @think_and_cause @deevbrain CFAR explored using Subject-Object Interviews as a measure for an experimental workshop in 2016 (the "Yin Workshop") which Ethan co-ran with @Morphenius, although afaik they didn't have training in conducting or scoring them. I did 1 or 2 SOIs for friends around that time.

@gworley3 @jessi_cata @xuenay @Meaningness @nosilverv @think_and_cause @deevbrain @Morphenius My guess is that the folk understanding came in part from people not reading the books but just having conversations about it? Plus all sorts of power dynamics around ppl claiming (or appearing to claim) to be at different stages, & others claiming it was types, not development.

@gworley3 @jessi_cata @xuenay @Meaningness @nosilverv @think_and_cause @deevbrain @Morphenius The former Kegan colleague thought based on my ability to follow what he was saying & stretch his perspective that I might be higher stage than him (>4) but I think he was misled by my having a very advanced ~"cultural code", to use Hanzi's terminology 😅 medium.com/age-of-awarene…

@gworley3 @jessi_cata @xuenay @Meaningness @nosilverv @think_and_cause @deevbrain @Morphenius Part of the mess though is that Kegan's framework measures "lowest level you can be triggered to" which imo is 2 for almost anyone if they're panicked enough (ppl usually aren't). I was probably having a few 5ish thoughts at the time, but my emotional core was doing 2-3-4 stuff.

@gworley3 @jessi_cata @xuenay @Meaningness @nosilverv @think_and_cause @deevbrain @Morphenius Interesting contrast with MHC stage which iirc measures "highest level at which you've ever had an original thought". It also has a metasystematic stage.

@CountJ0ecool @spearofsolomon Mmm, the bit about inventing new fields reminds of me of the MHC (Model of Hierarchical Complexity) The final graphic below shows the levels of complexity needed to invent new fields. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Model_of_…

@gworley3 @jessi_cata @xuenay @Meaningness @nosilverv @think_and_cause @deevbrain @Morphenius Separating out MHC from culture code (symbols) seems to somewhat solve the problem with Kegan where a bunch of cultural & emotional stuff is mixed in with raw cognitive development—they're intertwingled, but not the same! Hanzi's The Listening Society has a decent take on this.
